Undressing golf's dress code

March 24, 2012 -- The most iconic golf style photograph I can think of is one of Sean Connery, circa 1962, sporting a driving cap, and a vibrant red jumper paired with turned up denim, with a golf bag slung with style over his right shoulder.

« 2011 Presidents Cup apparel ticker - part two »

As published yesterday, and much to Chapeau Noir's delight, the folks from @gregnormanstyle provided the International team apparel script -- but the insight didn't stop there.

Kudos go to the Greg Norman Collection team who provided a bit of extra insight into the renderings, giving us a heads up that due to the weather forecast, the Internationals were swapping the kits slated for use on Saturday for use on Friday instead, and then promptly responding Chapeau Noir's observation that one Ryo Ishikawa was obviously not outfitted with the same trousers as his day two partner, Ernie Els.

Everyone knows one size doesn't fit all. The Greg Norman Collection also knows that one style of trouser doesn't fit all either. (Cannon / Getty)

As obvious as though it may sound, it isn't always the case that a player is able to preserve their personal style while involved in team competition

More often than not, one style is forced to fit all, usually with awkward results. But the stylists at the Greg Norman Collection made the effort to ensure each player on the International side were outfitted appropriately.

Ryo just wouldn't be Ryo if he were trousers of the style Ernie favours were foisted upon him, and it goes without saying that Ernie would look foolish (and uncomfortable) if he were to wear a super slim modern cut pant like Ryo's.

Selfishly, it would make for great golf fashion blogging, but it just wouldn't be right.

Bubba's jumper and buttons

With temperatures reaching a high of 88 degrees at Royal Melbourne, Chapeau Noir wondered why Bubba Watson stuck with the jumper for so long during the second round.

Later, Bubba's trademark buttoned up look was the subject of a tweet from golf fashion leader @ianjamespoulter. Chapeau Noir loves that this sort of thing drives other people batty too.

And finally...

Most on the American side went with brown belts in preferred Peter Millar style, but Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods went off the board with white. That said, Peter Millar has kept scripting close to the sweater vest at the 2011 Presidents Cup so we don't really know what was on the board in the first place. However, if you're keen on having any one of the seven Peter Millar 2011 Presidents Cup creations, head over to the Peter Millar page on Facebook. You'll need to 'like' the page before you can buy ($115)... Geoff Ogilvy puts the mo in momentum, does he not? If you do not agree, you must to answer to the 'mo... Greg Norman isn't hitting a shot at the 2011 Presidents Cup, but he's all cleated out in personalized adiPUREs, geeking out just like the rest of us who feel we need to wear our cleats to golf events at which we are only there to spectate... Chapeau Noir still can't get used to Tiger Woods in the Nike Free prototypes, especially when he wears the white version. And those sunglasses... do they not fit his face or is it just me?
