« If The Shoe Fits... »
For a bunch of pros, it sure seems like amateur hour on the PGA Tour these days.
First a winter's worth of media fodder from world number one Tiger Woods, and now news of lowly club pro Scott Medlin, who after qualifying for and then flaming out at the Verizon Heritage at Hilton Head, thought it to be quite the ruse to steal the Adidas Tour 360's from Martin Laird's locker.
Adidas Tour 360s. Retail price at Dick's - $179.99!
This begs the following questions...
First, Is Medlin that hard up as a club pro that he needs to get his hands on the Adidas Tour 360 shoe offering?
If so, it might be time for you to check your aspirations to run your local muni when you grow up, because apparently you don't get paid nearly enough, or don't get a deep enough discount or freebies from your local Adidas rep.
Second, is 'low to the ground technology' found in the Tour 360 so proprietary that Adidas has created an artificial market shortage, driving normally sane and reasonable men to measures as desparate as theivery?
It could very well be that this is a collasal misunderstanding. Perhaps Medlin and Laird shared adjacent lockers, and wear the same shoe. Medlin easily could have grabbed the wrong pair while on his way to slamming his trunk.
But, if it isn't, and Medlin intentionally took another man's shoes (let's hope they weren't used), the problem goes beyond morality and escalates to a distinct lack of shoe market awareness. Word to the wise Medlin, the next time you decide to jack someone's shoes, try to make it worth your while and upgrade to a pair or ten of FJ Icons.
Ian Poulter has a few he can spare, but you might want to ask him first.
