Hybrid golf shoe solutions gain traction

April 13, 2011 -- One of the earliest references to a spiked golf shoe was published in 1857 in the Scottish periodical 'The Golfer's Manual'. The manual simply advised those new to the game to "wear stout shoes roughed with small nails or sprigs to walk safely over slippery ground." Concerns over the quality of putting surfaces resulting from shoe "sprigs" soon followed.

As Fred Couples continues to dominate the Champions Tour with his third win of the year at The Cap Cana Championship this weekend, the Ecco Golf Street Premier is gaining more and more exposure, and subsequently, is attracting more and more interest in street-style golf shoes from the golfing public.

The trend toward a more casual looking golf shoe is being lead by companies like Ecco with the Golf Street Premier, and newcomer Kikkor Golf, with its line that is decidedly not the shoe your father would choose to wear - unless your father is Fred Couples. The 2010 lineup from Kikkor Golf.A casual shoe like this can be worn by any player at any time, in any environment - be it your local muni or the high end private club you've been itching to play. As long as the shoe provides comfort and performance, and it looks good to you - wear it.

The more style options that are available to players - be it in a shoe or otherwise - allow us to create our own personal style, and can't help but grow the game.

At the end of the day, isn't that what it's all about?
