March 24, 2012 -- The most iconic golf style photograph I can think of is one of Sean Connery, circa 1962, sporting a driving cap, and a vibrant red jumper paired with turned up denim, with a golf bag slung with style over his right shoulder.

« Fred Couples: 17 Again? »

Back on October 3, 2009 Fred Couples turned 50, making him eligible for the Champions Tour. Chapeau Noir has always been a big fan of Fred's casual elegance in traditional attire. Here's a guy who has been with Ashworth for what seems like forever, and has become the personification of the brand, even after it was swallowed up by the seemingly unholy alliance of Adidas TaylorMade.

Fred Couples goes street style in Hawaii. But now this! Perhaps Fred thinks he's 17 Again, as Couples went street style with his footwear at the Wendy's Champions Skins Game in Hawaii. Take it as just a gentle reminder to us all that it's not how old we are, but how young we feel, and if a shoe does that for you, go for it!

Fred has been wearing Ecco for a few years now, and the shoes he sported yesterday first surfaced during the Presidents Cup, when Couples wore a similar, if not the same shoe during the closing ceremonies.

Couples is likely wearing a version the the Ecco Street Premiere, an appropriately casual golf shoe considering the nature of the Senior Skins event.

Interestingly, while the Ecco USA web site has only a white version of the Street Premiere on display, the worldwide Ecco web site has the Golf Street shoe as a line item at the bottom of this page, without a product image.

One thing is for sure, Couples was not wearing these shoes by accident.

Another detail to bring to your attention is Couples use of the short sock, be they ankle or low cut, an increasingly popular option favoured by Chapeau Noir when in golf trousers.
