« Polo Ralph Lauren Saddles Up With Webb »

Webb Simpson, Polo Ralph Lauren brand ambassador.Word comes to Chapeau Noir today from New York that Polo Ralph Lauren has signed Webb Simpson to a multi-year contract to represent its Polo Golf collection.

While perhaps not as high on the radar screen as far as top flight players without an apparel contract go, Simpson, who makes his 2010 PGA Tour debut at this week's Sony Open in Hawaii, is a promising young player that fits the Polo Ralph Lauren brand extremely well.

It only takes one look at the promotional photos for Chapeau Noir to understand that Mr. Simpson certainly has the Polo Ralph Lauren look and should prove to be an outstanding Polo man for years to come.

Polo Ralph Lauren is going big with Simpson, as it was announced that as part of the partnership, Simpson will not only serve as a brand ambassador for Polo Ralph Lauren worldwide and will be featured in a national advertising campaign for the brand and will wear clothing from the Polo Golf collection. Heady days!

“Webb is an incredibly talented athlete who embodies youthfulness and a classic style, making him a perfect fit for the Polo Golf brand,” said David Lauren, Senior Vice President of Advertising, Marketing and Corporate Communications for Ralph Lauren.

Webb Simpson will be featured in Polo Ralph Lauren national advertising campaigns. For those not familiar with Simpson, just 24 years of age, hails from Raleigh, North Carolina and is a graduate of Wake Forest University where he was a four-time NCAA All-American and was a member of the victorious 2007 Walker Team Cup. Simpson finished his senior year winning the ACC Championship and was named the ACC Player of the Year.

When he turned pro in June 2008, Simpson was quick to show his talent level, as he was one of only two players to earn a 2009 PGA Tour card without a having to go through the Q-school ringer. For some reason, even if he had to endure the process, Chapeau Noir thinks Simpson would have come through that ringer looking freshly pressed.

“In order to be the best in golf, it’s important that I wear the best, which is why Polo Golf is a natural choice for me.  I grew up wearing Polo and have always loved the classic style it represents,” said Simpson.

Polo Golf has been in the business of outfitting golf professionals since 1987, and have proven that the Ralph Lauren look is both sophisticated and timeless. For Spring 2010 Polo Golf is introducing a series of collections that combine modern sporting luxury with a legacy of American style.

The ability for a brand to identify the appropriate player, and then have that player resonate with his or her audience on behalf of that brand creates a powerful association. For example, Chapeau Noir immediately associates Davis Love III, Tom Watson, and Luke Donald with Polo, and readily envisions the same successful association for Webb Simpson.

Chapeau Noir highly recommends you get your Polo Golf on at RalphLauren.com/Golf.
