Compleat Golfer (South Africa) - August 2010 - A Flash In The Pants

"When choosing your belt buckle, feel free to express your personality, but be honest with yourself in regard to your personal dimensions. Gents a dessert or two over 36 inches in the waist should try to avoid larger-scale buckles... there's no need to draw attention to an already prominent area."

« Ghosts of Presidents Cup Past »

With the 2009 Presidents Cup in the books, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some previous Presidents Cup events to see what the teams were wearing.

I fondly remember my heavy Ashworth shirts as I tried to emulate the style of Fred Couples in the early 1990s.

You may recognize some trends you followed back in the day, and if you do, let Chapeau Noir know what some of your favorites were - better yet, if you have a classic photo or two to share, send them along and I'll create a gallery of the best!

Tiger Woods and Ernie Els took the Presidents Cup to a playoff, which ended in a draw due to darkness. Looks like the Americans held on to the red hats from 2003 and used them this year in San Francisco. (Stuart Franklin / Getty Images)

2000

The ubiquitous blue blazers make their standard appearance at the 2000 Presidents Cup presentation ceremony. This is back when David Duvall and Notah Begay had game, and Stewart Cink had hair!

1998

The Internationals celebrate their lone Presidents Cup win at Royal Melbourne in 1998.

1996

Little known fact: the victorious 1996 American team also recorded and released an 'a capella' CD featuring olde-timey favorites. This was the CD jacket image.

1994

Major color blocking along with unfitted caps, straw hats, and high forehead visors remind us of how much we don't miss the early 1990s.
