CNG takes a look at the style that mattered from the first day of the 2013 Masters tournament.
Nick Watney - Nike Golf
In 2013, Nick Watney has moved from BOSS to Nike. Which do we prefer? We think the sportier, more athletic Nike Golf apparel suits Watney's athletic frame. As for the flat billed cap, we're thinking perhaps it's a tribute to Anthony Kim. That guy was cool. And so are you Nick, so are you.
Ian Poulter - IJP Design
Poults was in full regalia on Thursday at the Masters. Too bad his driving didn't measure up to the quality of the new haircut -- or is it the other way around?
Michael Thompson - Ashworth
Thompson is part of team Ashworth. You'll be seeing the same shirt on the back of other Ashworth chaps the rest of the week. They'll each have their own, so they won't have to rotate. No sharesies. That'd be gross.
Fred Couples - Ashworth
Here's Fred Couples, also in Ashworth. Michael Thompson might wear this one on Friday. As for Fred, he continues to tease everyone with his early low round shenanigans, turning back the clock to 1992 on a yearly basis. Fred gives us every reason to think that oversized shirts and his signature sleeve hitch never went out of style.
Sergio Garcia - adidas Golf
This week Sergio, along with a few other adidas Golf men will don their nametags and head over to the local Dick's immediately following each round. There they'll work the Trackman, helping you find your smash factor.
Dustin Johnson - adidas Golf
Here's Sergio's fellow Dick's employee Dustin Johnson. Dustin is lining up a putt wearing a soon to be released shoe from adidas Golf.
Jason Day - adidas Golf
Jason Day is also lining up a putt. He's wearing adizero's to help us tell him apart from DJ. I'm getting dizzy.
Our Masters fun comes when we have no idea what brand some players are wearing. Take for example, Hiroyuki Fujita of Japan. Research into his apparel proves fruitless when CNG gets distracted by ads for Terrific Happy Hour.
Adam Scott - Uniqlo
Speaking of Japan, here's Adam Scott in Uniqlo. Nice looking shirt, but we can't get past the juxtaposition of a Mercedes logo on a $19 shirt.
Matteo Manassero - RLX
We only see Matteo Manassero once a year, and it's always at the Masters. We have no idea how he qualified to be there. Perhaps it's for lookin' so good. Much like Manassero, we always thought ANGC was a lovely spot of a picnic.
Tianlang Guan - Sligo
Tianlang Guan shot 73 in his first competitive round at Augusta National. No wasted youth here. We dig the somewhat jerry-rigged addition of the Chinese flag his Canadian-designed / made in China Sligo polo.
Bubba Watson - Oakley
Four left! Bubba's late 2012 move to Oakley caused some controversy amongst industry types, but we think the sporty, bold brand suits him well. Perhaps Bubba's opening round 75 could have benefitted from Oakley's hovercraft-come-golfcart.
Zach Johnson - Oakley
Zach Johnson looks tidy and tailored in Oakley. Johnson seems virtually absent from Oakley's substantial PR machine, which speaks directly to the broad appeal and marketability the 2012 Masters champion.
Rickie Fowler - Puma
We've come to love the Puma-Fowler brand match here at CNG, and we consider Fowler the modern-day equivalent to Doug Sanders, who at 79, continues to sport his trademark style to this day. How will Fowler look in Puma at 79?
Thorbjorn Olesen - Nike Golf
We have no idea what he shot, but we think Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark wins the day in Nike Golf.
Luke Donald - RLX
At CNG we had to wait all week with anticipation to see how well the real Luke Donald compared to his stylish RLX script sketches. He did not disappoint, though he looked much taller in the sketches.
Mike Weir - Linksoul
Ten years ago Mike Weir won the Masters. Now working to overcome a series of injuries, Weir surprised many with an opening even par round of 72. He surprised many more with his strawberry trousers. Weirsy wears them well.
Ryan Moore - True Linkswear
Remember when Ryan Moore wore ties and cardigans at the Masters? Let's do that again Ryan. Oh, and Mike Weir called. He wants his trousers back.
No, we don't know who Ryo wears. Our English emails to Japanese representives go unreturned. No matter, he still looks great. Just wish he'd play better so he'd actually get some TV time.
David Peterson - Oxford Golf
David Peterson is a pretty stylish guy. Check out those trousers, and better yet that belt! Oxford Golf has it going on, and in the battle of Peterson versus Pettersson...
... it's a unanimous decision.
Finally, here's a picture of Lindsay Vonn. Looks like she's on to us.
